Fiction?
Reality?
Utopia?
Meaning: a library existing only in the imagination
or: an actual image of a library
or: a library filled with books by the spectator i.e. his/her knowledge, phantasy or power of expression - inspired by the tangible bookcovers, the fictitious titles of the books.
Fiction-Reality-Utopia this threefold interpretation would merge into one, if the point was reached at which art and life become intertwined, a fragment of man's ultimate dream ... but part of reality?
Mountains of books so high no retailer, no librarian is able to read all the annual new releases. And on top of this the general dislike of reading. A lack of concentration - after half an hour we don't know what we read anymore - however voluntarily/involuntarily, with interest/utter boredom. Books come statussymbols; umpteen cubicmetres of books have to line the wall. Even books in the cellar, put away after a single reading, because the aesthete is unable to put up with the differences in size and colour, this «untidyness» common to most libraries. All this as well as a healthy portion of irony are part of the artist's work. Still, the mainspring not just for these works of art are anxiety and love. And only those who love are afraid of loss.
