Dear Mr. Schneede,

a few month ago, I experienced that caused by my exhibition “Legal Crimes“ at the Kunstverein Freiburg in spring 2002, I am suspected to have stolen the bronze “Figurine (sans bras)“ by Alberto Giacometti of the collection of the Hamburger Kunsthalle. To say it at once: I have not stolen this piece neither have I instructed somebody to do so. Up to the suspicion I had nothing to do with this matter.
Now this has changed: I contacted Alberto Giacometti in the meantime and with his formal support I created a new bronze entitled “Figurine (sans bras avec police)“.
Since – as far as I know – the original “Figurine (sans bras)“ did not recur until today, I would like to offer to donate as a substitute my “Figurine (sans bras avec police)“ to the Hamburger Kunsthalle. By the way, one issue of the bronze is actually on show at the Thomas Rehbein Gallery in Cologne.
I would be pleased if you accepted my offer and I am looking forward to hearing from you.
